We offer an advanced access appointment system that means you can be sure of getting an appointment with a doctor within 24 hours of your request.
Each appointment is for one patient with one medical problem only. Please make a separate appointment for each member of your family or if you have more than one medical problem. If you feel your condition is medically urgent you will be seen on the same day, although not always with the doctor of your choice and it may be necessary to wait.
Urgent appointments
If you have a medical emergency that means you need to be seen on the day, please inform the receptionist as there are some appointments specifically reserved for clinical emergencies. If however the doctor considers your problem is not a clinical emergency, then the doctor may ask you to re-book for another day/time.
To request an urgent appointment for today or tomorrow (Monday to Friday) during opening times:
- phone us on Wilson Street Surgery 01332 332 628 or Taddington Road Surgery 01332 332 628 or St Thomas Road Surgery 01332 332 628

Taddington Road Surgery appointment system
Appointment lines are available:
- Monday to Friday, 8am to 6:30pm
The doors are open from 8am until midday. These times may vary slightly according to the doctor you are seeing.
This is a branch surgery for the convenience of patients living in Chaddesden and Oakwood who wish to be seen in the mornings. If there are no appointments available, patients may be offered an appointment at Wilson Street.
Enhanced access
We do have extended access appointments at the hub each weekday evening and Saturdays and Sundays. For more information, please visit our extended hours appointments page.
Clinicians availability
Please view our clinician’s availability.
Your appointment
Some of our clinicians consult in consulting rooms on the first floor at Wilson Street. If you cannot manage to climb the stairs, please mention this to the receptionist when you book your appointment so that we can make arrangements for the consultation to take place in a downstairs consulting room.
However you choose to contact us, we may offer you a consultation:
- by phone
- face to face at the surgery
- on a video call
Appointments by phone, video call or by text or email can be more flexible and often means you get help sooner.
Patient self check-in screen
We have introduced a self check-in screen at both Wilson Street and Taddington Road Surgery to allow patients to let us know that they have arrived for their appointment. We hope this will alleviate the need for you to queue at reception simply to let us know you have arrived. We will make a member of the reception team available to show you how to use the screen, which is very simple to operate.
Cancelling or changing an appointment
If you are unable to attend your booked appointment, please let us know in advance so we can offer the appointment to someone else.
If you are late for your appointment, you may be asked to re-book another appointment or you may have to sit and wait until the end of surgery before you are able to be seen. Patients who arrive after you, but who are on time for their appointment, will be given precedence.
To cancel your appointment:
- use your NHS account (through the NHS website or NHS App)
- use the GP online system: SystmOnline
- phone us on Wilson Street Surgery 01332 332 628 or Taddington Road Surgery 01332 332 628 or St Thomas Road Surgery 01332 332 628 during opening times
If you need help when we are closed
If you need medical help now, use NHS 111 online or call 111.
NHS 111 online is for people aged 5 and over. Call 111 if you need help for a child under 5.
This service is managed by Derbyshire Health United (DHU) which is a co-operative of qualified GPs from the Derby area based within the out of hours centre.
A health care professional will answer your call and ask you for details of your problem. You may be offered telephone advice or asked to attend the out of hours centre to see one of the emergency care practitioners or a doctor/nurse. If patients are not well enough to travel and a home visit is deemed necessary this can still be offered. Patients should not arrive at the DHU centre without first telephoning for advice.
Call 999 in a medical or mental health emergency. This is when someone is seriously ill or injured and their life is at risk.
If you need help with your appointment
Please tell us:
- if there’s a specific doctor, nurse or other health professional you would prefer to respond
- if you would prefer to consult with the doctor or nurse by phone, face-to-face, by video call or by text or email
- if you need an interpreter
- if you have any other access or communication needs
Home visits
Home visits are only for those who are housebound or too ill to come to surgery. Children who are feeling poorly can safely be brought to the surgery where they can be more fully assessed on our well equipped premises.
If possible please try to call before 10:15am if you require a home visit. You will be asked to give a brief description of the problem. This will give the GP time to look through the visit requests and prioritise each one.
A doctor may phone you back as it may be that your problem can be dealt with by telephone advice, or that it would be more appropriate to send a GP or nurse, or indeed arrange a hospital attendance. Please remember that several patients can be seen in the practice in the time that it takes to make one home visit. There are also better facilities for examining and treating patients at the Health Centre.
To ask about home visits, please contact us on our dedicated home visits line, 01332 344 366.
